Language Arts - Hours 1, 2, 4 & 6-7 Common Core Standards

First hour pledge
1. Check figurative language for chapters 1-3 along with the proof. - take grade 2. Catch up on rising action thus far - student handout of rising action for the entire plot. 3. DURING READING ACTIVE THINKING - Begin chapter four vocabulary in context - begin teaching annotations on a copy of the novel pages that contain context for each term. Students will actively read. Figurative language, rising action, and character traits will also be recorded on the text copy while reading. Resources required at this point in the unit: Novel synopsis As we read, we need to make sure to list elements of narrative and features of the mystery genre for support and proof that this novel is a mystery narrative. Since they missed our two half-days last week, 1st and 2nd hour students can use today to catch up on the Khan Academy comma lessons.
Students are to answer all seven practice questions that follow each lesson; HOWEVER, they ONLY HAVE TO ACTUALLY WRITE out four of them below the notes they took on each lesson. Students should ensure that they have the correct answer choice prior to writing them down.

Continue with chapter four reading, rising action, figurative language, and to practice using context clues and support, vocabulary definitions while reading.
If time permits, we will begin chapter comprehension questions with textual support and in-text citations.
